Weekend Snapshot #228: Global Bikepacking Adventures

In this week’s Weekend Snapshot, we traverse continents to showcase the diverse landscapes and experiences of our bikepacking community. From the sun-kissed trails of Victoria, Australia, to the rugged terrains of Minnesota, USA, and the serene paths of Freiburg, Germany, our readers have embraced the spirit of adventure.

Victoria, Australia

By Damien Powell

Damien embarked on a leisurely 100-kilometre bikepacking journey along the Maryborough–Ballarat Heritage Trail. The route offered a blend of historical landmarks and picturesque autumn scenery, providing a perfect escape into nature.

Minnesota, USA

By Joaquin Valdes

Joaquin, along with fellow riders from Minneapolis and Des Moines, tackled a segment of the Minnesota River Ramble. Their adventure began with a night at Flandreau State Park in New Ulm, where they braved temperatures dipping to 28°F and gusts exceeding 30 mph. The following day, they traversed 42 miles along the Minnesota River toward Mankato, spotting over 20 bird species. Despite waking to thunder and snow at Minneopa, the group pressed on, returning to New Ulm under clear skies, albeit with headwinds. Their trail name, the 12-Dotted-Dog, was earned through camaraderie and resilience.

Freiburg, Germany

By Quint Sblick

Quint seized the opportunity presented by mild spring weather for a spontaneous overnight bikepacking trip. After a late work night, he set off on his mountain bike, covering a few kilometers out of the city. He found solace beneath blooming cherry trees in an abandoned sheep pasture, setting up his hammock for the night. Awakened by the eerie howls of a fox, Quint spent a peaceful morning reading, immersing himself in the awakening world around him.
