BMC’s Twostroke 01: A Refined Hardtail for the Modern Rider
BMC has unveiled a comprehensive update to its Twostroke 01 hardtail, enhancing its performance, agility, and versatility. This redesigned model is tailored for a diverse range of riders, from competitive cross-country enthusiasts to those seeking adventure beyond traditional racing circuits.
Race-Inspired Hardtail
The Twostroke 01 remains a pure hardtail at its core, but BMC has reimagined it with a more progressive geometry and technical refinements. The updated design aims to bring the bike in line with current cross-country standards, offering a blend of speed and adaptability. BMC positions this model as a swift, efficient machine that provides ample comfort and practical features for longer rides and rugged terrains.
Modernized Geometry and Handling
A significant overhaul is evident in the bike’s geometry. BMC has extended the reach by 10 millimeters, lowered the standover height, and steepened the seat tube angle to enhance climbing efficiency and high-speed handling. The head tube angle has been kept shorter to prevent the front end from rising too high when using forks with increased travel. Designed around a 110-millimeter fork, the Twostroke 01 remains compatible with forks ranging from 100 to 120 millimeters. With a head tube angle of 66°, a seat tube angle of 75.5°, and a 5-millimeter higher bottom bracket, BMC aims to strike a balance between stability, speed, and control on technical terrains.
Enhanced Comfort and Sleek Cable Routing
The frame has been meticulously refined, featuring a sloping top tube, low seatstays, and a uniquely shaped seat tube to provide a subtly compliant rear end without compromising pedaling efficiency. The D-shaped seatpost further amplifies comfort by allowing additional vertical flex. For riders anticipating more challenging terrains, the bike remains compatible with a dropper post. Additionally, BMC has revamped the internal cable routing to eliminate the ‘cable spaghetti’ and better protect the head tube paint from cable wear. This new routing simplifies the installation of brakes and dropper posts, reflecting BMC’s commitment to user-friendly design.
Focused on XC with Broader Usability
While the Twostroke 01 is clearly positioned as an XC racer, BMC emphasizes its versatility. The bike is equally adept on local trails, gravel races, adventurous rides, and even multi-day tours. In a market where hardtails are no longer confined to racing circuits, BMC caters to riders seeking a single bike for multiple scenarios. The bike’s drivetrain is compatible with AXS, Di2, and mechanical groupsets, allowing riders to tailor their setup based on budget, preference, and intended use. The 55-millimeter chainline and the ability to mount chainrings ranging from 26 to 38 teeth further enhance this flexibility.
Pricing and Configurations
The updated Twostroke 01 is available in two configurations. The Twostroke 01 One features a SRAM GX AXS 1×12 groupset and is priced at €5,499. The Twostroke 01 Two, equipped with a new Shimano 1×12 groupset, will be available later and is priced at €2,999. This pricing strategy positions the bike in both the premium segment and a more accessible mid-range offering.
BMC Sharpens Its Hardtail
With the revamped Twostroke 01, BMC underscores that the classic hardtail is far from obsolete. By modernizing the geometry, improving integration, and enhancing usability, the brand provides a clear update to its cross-country platform in line with current trends. Speed remains the foundation, but the bike’s applicability is broader than ever. The Twostroke 01 is designed for those who want to ride hard without being confined to a single discipline, appealing to both competitive racers and adventurous riders.
