Hunt’s latest innovation, the 5AM Limitless Ti_UD Carbon Spoke wheelset, has been unveiled, setting a new benchmark in aerodynamic performance and weight efficiency. This wheelset features a 58mm deep front rim and a 55mm deep rear rim, both with a 23mm internal width. The front rim’s maximum width is 34.5mm, while the rear measures 30mm. Hunt claims that this design makes it the fastest all-round road race wheelset they’ve ever tested, outperforming both their own previous models and those of key competitors.
A standout feature of the 5AM Limitless wheelset is the incorporation of carbon spokes, which contribute to a claimed total weight of 1,212g. These spokes are not only lighter but also stiffer, enhancing the wheel’s responsiveness and overall performance. The 15 front and 18 rear Vonoa Ti_UD carbon spokes weigh just 1.7g each and are equipped with titanium ends. The internal nipples further optimize airflow, reducing drag.
Hunt’s patented Limitless technology is employed in the front wheel, where low-density material is molded into the sidewall between carbon fiber layers. This process allows for a more aerodynamic profile without significantly increasing weight. The wide, blunt rim shape improves aerodynamics at higher yaw angles and enhances handling stability.
The wheelset is equipped with Hunt’s Chase SLC aero alloy hubs, featuring a 48-tooth ratchet freehub that provides a 7.5-degree engagement angle. Customers can choose between steel bearings or, for an additional cost, newly designed CeramicSpeed hybrid ceramic bearings.
In wind tunnel testing, the 5AM Limitless wheelset demonstrated superior aerodynamic performance compared to several competitor models. When paired with 30mm Schwalbe Pro One tires, it was found to be 1.74 watts faster than the Roval Rapide Sprint and 4.35 watts faster than the ENVE SES 4.5 Pro wheels used by Tadej Pogačar’s UAE Team Emirates-XRG WorldTour team. Outdoor testing on a runway revealed an 8.5-watt aero advantage over the Zipp 404 Firecrest and a 5.9-watt gain over the Scope Artech 6.
The 5AM Limitless Ti_UD Carbon Spoke wheelset is available with a choice of stainless steel or CeramicSpeed hybrid ceramic bearings. The wheelset is priced at £1,999 / $2,599 / €2,349 with steel bearings or £2,489 / $3,199 / €2,899 with ceramic bearings.
