Re-Cycle and Center Parcs: Breathing New Life into 1,000 Bikes for Africa
In a remarkable collaboration, Re-Cycle, the Essex-based charity renowned for repurposing unwanted bicycles, has partnered with Center Parcs to donate over 1,000 bikes to communities across Africa in 2026. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to sustainability and social impact.
A Sustainable Partnership
Center Parcs, operating five UK holiday villages, has long maintained a fleet of bicycles for guests. As these bikes reach the end of their service life, they are collected by Re-Cycle, refurbished, and shipped to trusted partners in Africa. The inaugural shipment arrived in The Gambia last month, with additional collections planned throughout the year. (blooloop.com)
Transforming Lives Through Mobility
Charlotte Ward, Director at Re-Cycle, emphasized the transformative power of this partnership:
“Providing communities with bikes gives them crucial access to education by offering safe routes to and from school, as well as opening up opportunities for jobs and income.” (blooloop.com)
Each bicycle serves as a tool for education, employment, and daily life, enabling individuals to access essential services and opportunities.
A Visual Tribute
To commemorate this significant partnership, Center Parcs Elveden Forest unveiled a striking installation featuring 200 donated bicycles. This display symbolizes the scale of the commitment and the positive impact these bikes will have on communities in need. (blooloop.com)
