Pedal Forward: Bicycles for Genoa!

by VeloMagster

In a commendable initiative to promote sustainable mobility and the reuse of public assets, Genova Parcheggi S.p.A., the public company responsible for managing parking and mobility services in Genoa, has announced the donation of 76 traditional bicycles. These bicycles, previously part of the city’s bike-sharing program, are now available for free to non-profit organizations, including recognized associations, volunteer organizations (ODV), social promotion associations (APS), and other entities registered in the National Single Register of the Third Sector (RUNTS). The bicycles, all of the same model, exhibit typical signs of wear from road use. Each has an estimated residual value of approximately €50, totaling around €3,800. The donation aims to support social, environmental, educational, and sports projects, as well as initiatives promoting sustainable mobility. Importantly, the bicycles are to be used exclusively for social and collective purposes, with any form of sale, transfer for a fee, exchange, or commercial use strictly prohibited. (primocanale.it)

This move aligns with Genoa’s broader strategy to enhance urban mobility and repurpose public resources for community benefit. By extending the lifecycle of these bicycles through donation, the city not only supports local non-profit initiatives but also reinforces its commitment to environmental sustainability and the promotion of cycling as a viable mode of transportation.
