Grip & Roll: Upgrade for Just £5!

by VeloMagster

Vee Tire Co. has unveiled its latest innovation in mountain bike tyres: the RAD-CORE series. This new line introduces a radial casing design, aligning the casing threads perpendicular to the direction of travel, a departure from the traditional cross-ply construction. Priced at just £5 more than their standard tyres, the RAD-CORE models are available in 27.5in and 29in sizes, retailing from £64.99. (bikeradar.com)

RAD-CORE Technology: A Leap Forward

The RAD-CORE technology enhances tyre performance by increasing grip and reducing rolling resistance simultaneously. Rich Wood, brand manager at distributor Madison, explains that the radial construction offers a more supple casing due to the threads being oriented at 90 degrees to the direction of travel. This design allows riders to run higher pressures while maintaining a supple feel, resulting in a smoother ride with greater bump absorption and a larger contact patch for improved traction. Additionally, the higher pressure contributes to more accurate steering, akin to the difference between riding a bike with a quick-release front axle and a thru-axle. (bikeradar.com)

Available Models

The RAD-CORE series initially offers three tread patterns:

  • Attack FSX RAD-CORE: Designed for maximum rolling speed on hardpack conditions, this tyre features aggressive cornering capabilities, making it suitable for front or rear use. (bikeradar.com)

  • Attack HPL RAD-CORE: Tailored for hardpack and mixed-terrain riding, this tyre provides versatility across various trail conditions. (bikeradar.com)

  • Snap WCE RAD-CORE: An all-rounder for mixed trail conditions, it boasts a deep tread design and even spacing to dig into loose dirt, offering reliable performance across diverse terrains. (bikeradar.com)

All three models utilise Vee Tire Co’s “Full 40 Compound,” a 42a (Shore A scale) rubber known for its ultra-tacky properties, enhancing grip and durability. They are available in 27.5×2.5in and 29×2.5in sizes, with the non-radial casing GXE-Core versions priced at £59.99. (bikeradar.com)

Understanding Radial Tyres

Radial tyres differ from traditional cross-ply tyres in their construction. While cross-ply tyres have threads running diagonally at a 45-degree angle, radial tyres arrange the threads at a more obtuse angle, perpendicular to the direction of travel. This design theoretically offers increased compliance and cornering grip, with the potential to run higher pressures without sacrificing comfort. (bikeradar.com)

Vee Tire Co’s RAD-CORE series represents a significant advancement in mountain bike tyre technology, offering riders enhanced performance and value.
