Kona’s latest drop-bar mountain bike, the Legend of Big Fork (LBF), has been unveiled in a striking new Gloss Cherry finish. This model continues to push the boundaries of drop-bar mountain biking, combining a robust steel frame with a 100mm suspension fork and progressive geometry.
Design and Build
The LBF is constructed around a Reynolds 520 steel frame, renowned for its durability and ride quality. The frame geometry features a slack 67° head tube angle, providing stability on technical descents. It accommodates 29 x 2.5” tires, with clearance for even larger sizes, making it versatile for various terrains.
Components
The bike is equipped with a 100mm travel suspension fork, enhancing control on rough trails. Braking is handled by four-piston SRAM G2 calipers, paired with SRAM Apex drop-bar shifters for precise gear changes. The wheels feature RaceFace ARC 27 Offset rims, shod with 29 x 2.4” Maxxis Dissector tires at the front and Maxxis Forekaster tires at the rear, offering excellent grip and durability. A Ritchey Beacon handlebar provides a comfortable grip, and a long-travel dropper post from TranzX allows for quick saddle adjustments on the fly.
Performance
The LBF has been tested in demanding conditions, including a nine-day bikepacking trip on Baja’s Cape Loop. Its design and component selection make it a capable choice for expedition-style bikepacking, standing out among other drop-bar mountain bikes.
Pricing and Availability
The LBF is priced at $3,699 USD and is available in four sizes. For more information, visit Kona’s official website.
