In the latest edition of Weekend Snapshot, we traverse the globe to explore the vibrant world of bikepacking. From the serene landscapes of Minnesota to the historic trails of Germany and the picturesque routes of Virginia, riders are embracing the joys of two-wheeled adventures.
Minnesota, USA
A 60-mile round trip from South Minneapolis to Carver Park Reserve unfolded a tapestry of natural beauty. Traversing mostly gravel rails-to-trails paths, the journey was adorned with sightings of wood ducks, cranes, bobolinks, sparrows, bluebirds, chickadees, turkeys, cowbirds, and more. The bike-in campsite fostered camaraderie, with fellow campers sharing morning fires and adventure stories. This marked a memorable first S24O (Sub-24-Hour Overnight) experience with my son.
Virginia, USA
Embarking on the Sky Meadows Overnighter, the state park offered a peaceful retreat in the Virginia countryside, where the night sky unveiled a tapestry of stars. This ride was a blend of firsts and farewells. For the first time, I completed a BIKEPACKING.com route, connecting with fellow bikepackers along the way. As my temporary work assignment concludes, this ride served as a fitting farewell to the rolling hills, abundant gravel roads, and new friends in Virginia.
Berlin, Germany
On a sunny Saturday, a group of friends gathered, bikes in tow, for a forest ride. Midway, we paused for a coffee break, each bringing a Bialetti and a gas stove. These off-bike moments have become the highlight of my recent rides.
