Austrian bicycle manufacturer VELLO has introduced the latest iteration of its compact cargo e-bike, the SUB, aiming to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing segment of compact longtail bikes. These bikes combine high transport capacity with a compact design and daily usability.
A Compact Alternative to Urban Car Use
Urban residents are increasingly replacing cars with versatile e-bikes for daily commutes, shopping, and transporting children. Practical usability remains crucial, especially in urban environments where storage space is often limited.
The VELLO SUB addresses this by measuring just 185 cm in length, making it notably more compact than traditional cargo bikes while still offering substantial transport capacity. This design allows for easier storage in apartments, bike sheds, or courtyards and maintains practicality for train travel.
Enhanced Bosch Cargo Line Motor with Up to 120 Nm Torque
Central to the update is the latest Bosch Cargo Line Gen 5 drive system, delivering up to 120 Nm of torque and support up to 600%, ensuring the SUB remains stable and powerful under heavy loads or on inclines.
VELLO pairs this drive with a dual battery configuration totaling 1,600 Wh, providing a maximum range of up to 350 kilometers, depending on usage conditions and configuration.
Improved Control and Usability
VELLO has also focused on control and daily usability. The SUB now features new MAGURA Louise brakes, offering powerful and well-modulated braking performance, even in wet conditions or under heavy loads.
The Enviolo-equipped version displays all riding information via the compact Bosch Purion 200 display, while the 3×3 gear system version includes an integrated gear indicator.
Additionally, the bike has been refined for practical use. The updated stand makes parking and loading easier and more stable, while the optimized position of the towbar ensures the SUB is compatible with almost all standard bike trailers.
Enhanced Comfort for Daily Use
Ergonomics and comfort have received extra attention. A shorter stem provides a more balanced riding position, making the bike accessible for various body sizes.
VELLO also equips the SUB with ergonomic Selle Royal NIVO grips and foldable ERGOTECH platform pedals with anti-slip tape. Longer fenders increase comfort during inclement weather, emphasizing the focus on daily use in all conditions.
