E-Bike > E-PelmoAt the Roc d’Azur festival, Intradrive unveiled its innovative GD8 gearbox powertrain, a sealed 8-speed system designed specifically for electric mountain bikes (eMTBs). This groundbreaking technology integrates an 8-speed gearbox with wireless electronic shifting and a pedal-assist motor into a single, compact unit. The GD8 is engineered for durability, low maintenance, and full repairability, marking a significant advancement in eMTB drivetrain technology. (intradrive.co.uk)

The GD8’s design draws inspiration from automotive technology, where gears are housed within a sealed gearbox to protect them from external elements. Similarly, the GD8’s sealed unit shields the drivetrain from mud, dust, and potential damage from rock strikes or crashes. Maintenance is streamlined, requiring an oil change every 10,000 kilometers. The system is compatible with both chain and belt drives, offering flexibility to bike manufacturers. (intradrive.co.uk)

In terms of performance, the GD8 boasts a 480% gear range, with electronic shifting actuated via a wireless Bluetooth remote. Shifts occur in approximately 0.1 seconds, whether under load, while coasting, or at a standstill. The motor delivers a nominal power of 250W, with a peak output of 700W. The entire unit weighs 4.5 kg, excluding the battery, and utilizes the Shimano EP8 mounting interface, facilitating integration into existing frame designs. (intradrive.co.uk)

Two prominent eMTB brands have already integrated the GD8 into their models. German manufacturer Alutech has introduced a GD8-equipped version of its ePelmo e-enduro bike, featuring a hydroformed aluminum frame with 150mm of travel front and rear, paired with a Gates belt drive. The Alutech ePelmo is priced at €11,499, including VAT. (pinkbike.com)

French brand Obscur has launched its inaugural eMTB, the Enyx, built around the GD8 system. The Enyx boasts a high-modulus carbon frame, 150mm of rear travel, a 160mm fork, and MX wheels. It features a proprietary 840Wh battery with a unique low-slung design, contributing to a low center of gravity for enhanced handling. The Enyx is available in two builds: Ride and Max, with pricing to be announced. (pinkbike.com)

Intradrive’s GD8 is designed and manufactured in the UK, with production underway and first deliveries to partner bike brands scheduled for December 2026. The company is collaborating with additional brands and is open to inquiries for the 2028 model year and beyond. (intradrive.co.uk)
