Ziemi, the innovative Dutch bicycle lighting company, has recently launched a public investment round aiming to raise €2.5 million to fuel its next phase of growth. This initiative allows both the public and strategic partners to invest in the company, with over €691,000 already secured from nearly 300 investors. The investment round is set to remain open until the end of March 2026.
The funds raised will be allocated towards the development of new products designed to enhance the visibility of cyclists and other vulnerable road users. Additionally, Ziemi plans to scale up production and expand its team. The company specializes in bicycle lights that utilize Biomotion lighting technology, illuminating the cyclist’s moving legs to increase visibility for other road users. Founder Luci Santema reported a significant surge in sales, with units sold rising from approximately 2,000 in 2024 to over 100,000.
In November 2025, Ziemi identified a programming error in the battery chip of one of its product lines. Rather than discarding the affected units, the startup chose to modify and reintroduce them under the name ‘Tommi.’ Santema remarked, “After the product error, we could have given up. But the feedback from thousands of customers gave us the confidence to continue building.”
To support its next growth phase, Daan Becker has joined the Ziemi team. Previously the CEO of shared scooter company Felyx, Becker brings valuable experience in scaling mobility businesses. At Ziemi, he will be involved in further developing the organization and driving international expansion. The investment round is being conducted through the platform CrowdAboutNow. Santema emphasized the decision to involve not just a single large investor but also users and other interested parties, stating, “By involving this group as investors, we strengthen our foundation for future product development.”
