Terra Bikes Unveils the Nera: A Fusion of Downhill Precision and Freeride Freedom

Italian boutique brand Terra Bikes has introduced the Nera, a high-performance mountain bike that seamlessly blends downhill precision with freeride freedom. This innovative machine features a hand-built chromoly steel frame, a patent-pending high-pivot suspension system, and offers a choice between two advanced gearbox options.

Frame and Suspension

The Nera’s frame is meticulously crafted from high-strength chromoly steel, delivering a balance of durability and desired flex characteristics. This construction not only provides excellent vibration damping but also ensures the frame’s resilience on challenging terrains. Complementing the frame is Terra’s proprietary I-Track Suspension Platform, offering 200-210mm of travel. This system incorporates a floating idler pulley that actively manages chain growth and the interaction between pedaling forces and suspension kinematics, effectively neutralizing pedal kickback. Geometry and Customization

The Nera’s geometry is designed to cater to both downhill and freeride disciplines. It features a 64° head tube angle paired with a 78° seat tube angle, with reach measurements of 460mm, 480mm, and 500mm across three standard sizes. The stack height remains consistent at 640mm across all sizes. For riders seeking personalized fit and performance, Terra offers custom geometry options, including adjustable chainstay lengths ranging from 435mm to 465mm, and the possibility of custom dropouts to accommodate 29” or mixed wheel setups. Gearbox Options

Emphasizing low maintenance and optimal weight distribution, the Nera is available with two gearbox options:

  • Pinion Mechanical 9-speed: Priced at €4,400, this option provides a reliable and sealed system, reducing the need for regular maintenance.

  • Effigear Mimic Evo 9: Available for €4,600, this gearbox offers a unique design that further enhances the bike’s performance and durability.

Both gearboxes include cranks, a chainring, a chain, and shifter controls, all pre-installed. Terra Bikes estimates a 12-week lead time for custom orders. (pinkbike.com)

Pricing and Availability

The Nera frame without a gearbox is available for €3,400. For riders interested in the complete package, the frame with the Pinion Mechanical 9-speed gearbox is priced at €4,400, and the frame with the Effigear Mimic Evo 9 gearbox is available for €4,600. Each frame is built to order, with an estimated lead time of 12 weeks. (pinkbike.com)
