Streamlined Bike Trade: Revolutionizing Belgian Deals

by VeloMagster

In the wake of the e-bike boom during the 2020 and 2021 pandemic years, a significant number of these bicycles are now being returned to retailers as customers seek newer models. This trend presents both opportunities and challenges for Belgian bicycle dealers. To streamline the trade-in process, CycleSoftware and PedalPro have introduced an integrated solution designed to simplify the valuation and resale of used e-bikes.

The Surge in E-Bike Trade-Ins

The surge in e-bike sales during the pandemic has led to a growing influx of used e-bikes into the market. Many of these bikes, now five to six years old, are returning to specialty shops as customers upgrade to newer models. This shift is expected to continue, with the market entering a phase of increased trade-ins. (bright.nl)

CycleSoftware and PedalPro’s Integrated Solution

To address the complexities of managing used e-bikes, CycleSoftware and PedalPro have developed a seamless integration. Belgian and Dutch retailers using CycleSoftware can now appraise trade-in bikes directly within their existing point-of-sale system. This integration provides real-time market valuations, enabling dealers to make informed offers to customers without switching between multiple platforms. Retailers have the flexibility to use the valuation tool independently or opt for direct purchase through PedalPro.

Streamlining the Trade-In Process

The integration allows staff to input trade-in bike details directly into CycleSoftware. Based on current market data, the system generates a trade-in value and a corresponding price range. This approach reduces reliance on subjective assessments and enhances transparency for customers, who can better understand the factors influencing their bike’s value.

Once a dealer and customer agree on a trade-in offer, CycleSoftware can send a proposal to PedalPro. The dealer is not obligated to proceed with the sale and can use the tool solely for valuation purposes. If the offer is accepted, PedalPro handles the logistics, inspection, invoicing, and payment, ensuring the trade-in bike doesn’t remain in the store for extended periods.

Reducing Inventory and Capital Risks

Managing a stock of used bikes can be resource-intensive, requiring space, capital, and expertise. Not all retailers are equipped or willing to develop a full-fledged second-hand operation. Direct purchase from PedalPro offers an alternative, allowing dealers to provide trade-in options to customers without taking on the responsibility of resale. This is particularly advantageous as the volume of trade-ins increases, preventing capital from being tied up in used inventory and enabling retailers to focus on selling new e-bikes.

Cost-Free Integration

PedalPro offers its appraisal and purchase software free of charge, with no setup or monthly subscription fees. The pickup service is also included. For CycleSoftware users in Belgium and the Netherlands, the PedalPro integration is available without additional software costs. A completed appraisal does not automatically lead to a sale; the retailer retains the freedom to proceed or not. This no-obligation approach lowers the barrier for retailers to test the tool in their daily operations. Some may use PedalPro primarily for objective pricing indications, while others will also utilize direct purchase and logistical handling.

Activating the Integration

Retailers can activate the integration directly from CycleSoftware by navigating to Management, Settings, and then Supplier Integrations. From there, they can select PedalPro and submit a request. PedalPro will process the request and facilitate the activation of the integration. To celebrate the launch, a temporary promotion is running in August 2026, offering bicycle shops a €100 cashback when they input their first bike through the integration and sell it to PedalPro.

As the e-bike market continues to mature, trade-ins will become an increasingly important aspect of the sales conversation. The collaboration between CycleSoftware and PedalPro provides Belgian bicycle dealers with an additional tool to manage the growing influx of used bikes without the need to establish a comprehensive second-hand operation.
