Race to Glory: The Ciel du Nord Tribute

by VeloMagster

In 1992, Laurent Jalabert achieved a remarkable victory in Stage 6 of the Tour de France, a grueling 167-kilometer route through Belgium’s cobbled climbs, including the Kwaremont, Kreusberg, and Muur van Geraardsbergen. This stage, marked by rain and thunderstorms, was Jalabert’s first Tour win. A photograph capturing this moment has inspired Look Cycle’s latest creation: the 795 Blade RS Ciel du Nord. This special edition bike pays homage to Jalabert’s triumph with a unique paint scheme reflecting the colors of that iconic image.

The Ciel du Nord edition is a limited release of 167 bikes, each hand-painted in Nevers, France, ensuring a one-of-a-kind finish. The design is described as “an ode to the red bricks, the unforgiving cobbles, and the unique atmosphere that makes the North the heart of the cycling world.” (bikeradar.com)

Unlike typical limited-edition bikes that often feature high-end components, the 795 Blade RS Ciel du Nord is equipped with a mid-range specification. This choice reflects the industrial heritage of northern France, an area with a history of coal mining and heavy industry. The bike features a Shimano Ultegra 52/36t x 11-34t electronic groupset and Mavic Cosmic S42 Carbon wheels with Continental GP 5000 TLR 28mm tires. The complete bike weighs approximately 7.6 kg. To complement the special edition, each bike comes with Look Keo Blade Ceramic pedals, matching the bike’s color scheme, a Ciel du Nord jigsaw puzzle, and a matching tote bag. The complete Look 795 Blade RS Ciel du Nord bike is priced at £7,290 / €7,690 / $10,700, with the frameset available for £4,800 / €4,800 / $6,000. (bikeradar.com)

This release not only honors a significant moment in cycling history but also showcases Look Cycle’s commitment to blending performance with homage to the sport’s rich heritage.
