Race to Glory: Celebrate East Africa with Amani & Black Mamba Styles

by VeloMagster

Fizik, the renowned cycling footwear brand, has unveiled two limited-edition off-road racing shoes that pay homage to East Africa’s burgeoning presence in international gravel racing. The Ferox 2 Carbon now sports the vibrant colours of Team Amani, while the Proxy model showcases the distinctive neon green and black design of the Black Mamba Development Squad. Both colourways are crafted for, and raced by, athletes who are shaping the future of East African cycling. (bikebiz.com)

Design Inspired by East African Craft

The Ferox 2 Carbon Team Amani features a blue-and-black upper with coral accents, drawing patterns and colours from East African weaving traditions. Floral motifs adorn the shoe and the AMANI-branded insole, where a repeating bloom pattern is set against a coral base. Fizik notes that the design embraces small, deliberate imperfections as a nod to hand-woven textiles and the human craft behind them. (bikebiz.com)

The Proxy Black Mamba edition uses the high-visibility colours of Team Amani’s U23 development squad, reflecting the riders learning their craft on the unpaved roads around Iten, Kenya. (bikebiz.com)

Built for Gravel and XC Racing

Both models maintain a strong focus on off-road performance. The Ferox 2 Carbon is Fizik’s lightweight, high-performance off-road racing shoe, designed for fast gravel and XC MTB competition. It combines a translucent, tear-resistant PU-laminated upper with a foot-wrapping bootie, a Powerstrap at the instep, and a Li2 BOA Fit System at the forefoot. The shoe also features a redesigned full-carbon X1 outsole, described by the brand as wider, lower, and stiffer for improved power transfer, with studs and full-surface rubber for traction off the bike. The Proxy brings a more endurance-focused option to the range. It uses a lightweight PU-laminated mesh upper, an X3 carbon-reinforced nylon outsole with rubber tread, and a single bi-directional Li2 BOA dial. Fizik said the model’s long-distance credentials have been underlined this year by Proxy holding both the men’s and women’s Tour Divide records. (bikebiz.com)

Riders Behind the Colourways

The launch also highlights the athletes connected to the two teams. Claudette Nyirarukundo, one of Team Amani’s most decorated riders, recently finished runner-up at the Migration Gravel Race and has been central to the team’s mission to build a professional pathway for East African women in cycling. Ivan Kipruto, a member of the Black Mamba U23 development team, took victory and the leader’s jersey at the 2026 Migration Gravel Race, with Black Mamba teammates completing the podium. (bikebiz.com)

Part of Fizik’s Wider Colour Story

The new team editions continue the colour direction Fizik introduced earlier this year with TONES, a seasonal collection spanning shoes, helmets, and accessories. The brand said the programme reflects a move towards bolder, more expressive colour choices across its range. Fizik added that further rider-inspired colourways will follow in the months ahead, drawing on its roster of professional athletes and bringing more personality-led designs into its core product line. These limited-edition shoes not only offer high-performance features but also celebrate the rich cultural heritage and rising prominence of East African cycling on the global stage.
