Porsche Powers Down: 500 Jobs Axed in eBike Shift

by VeloMagster

Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, a subsidiary of Porsche AG, has announced the cessation of operations at its Ottobrunn and Zagreb facilities, leading to the loss of approximately 360 jobs. This decision aligns with Porsche’s strategic realignment, focusing on its core automotive business. Dr. Michael Leiters, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche, stated, “We must refocus on our core business. This is the indispensable foundation for a successful strategic realignment. This forces us to make painful cuts — including our subsidiaries.”

The closure of Porsche eBike Performance GmbH follows the dissolution of the P2 eBike GmbH joint venture between Porsche and Pon Holdings in December 2025. Established in August 2022, P2 eBike GmbH aimed to develop and market high-end Porsche-branded e-bikes. However, the collaboration was unexpectedly terminated, and the development of Porsche-branded e-bikes was halted. (bike-magazin.de)

Despite these setbacks, Porsche remains committed to the e-bike sector through its independent subsidiary, Porsche eBike Performance GmbH. The company continues to focus on developing innovative e-bike drive systems, including the compact and lightweight systems from FAZUA and future high-performance systems under the Porsche brand. Porsche eBike Performance GmbH is also establishing its own e-bike battery production facility in Croatia, with production scheduled to start at the beginning of 2026. This strategic shift underscores Porsche’s dedication to advancing e-mobility while concentrating on its primary automotive endeavors.
