Viral Bikes, renowned for their innovative approach to adventure cycling, has unveiled the Wander-ee, their inaugural e-bike model. This titanium gravel bike seamlessly integrates the Mahle X20 Motor System with Pinion’s Smart.Shift technology, setting a new benchmark in the e-gravel segment.
Advanced Shifting System
The Smart.Shift system offers electronic shifting powered directly by the e-bike’s battery, eliminating the need for additional wiring. This integration introduces automatic shifting features, such as pre-select and start-select modes, which adjust to the rider’s preferred gear upon stopping. It’s important to note that these features are exclusive to the e-bike variant, as the absence of speed sensors in non-electric models precludes their use.
Design and Geometry
Building upon the foundation of the Wanderer model, the Wander-ee is tailored for gravel-specific requirements, accommodating the Mahle system’s hub specifications (142/12 rear, 100/12 front). The frame geometry is optimized for stability and comfort, featuring a slack head tube angle that enhances high-speed control. Additionally, the bike offers substantial tire clearance, supporting up to 29 x 2.1-inch tires, making it well-suited for diverse terrains.
Suspension System
The Wander-ee incorporates both active and passive suspension systems to ensure a smooth ride across varied surfaces. The front suspension is provided by the Cane Creek Invert CS fork, delivering 40mm of travel to effectively absorb road chatter. The frame geometry is specifically designed to complement this fork choice. For rear suspension, the bike utilizes a passive system where the seat tube is suspended on a flex plate welded to the seat stays, allowing for 10-20mm of flex to dampen vibrations from the rear axle.
Launch Edition Features
The Launch Edition of the Wander-ee is priced at $14,500 and includes several premium features:
- Range Extension Battery: Provides additional mileage for extended rides.
- Mahle Hub System: Ensures efficient power delivery and performance.
- Wireless SRAM AXS Dropper Post: Features a custom-made activation button from Zirbel, mounted under the TRP brake hood.
- Tailfin Bags: A complete set included for cargo hauling, enhancing the bike’s versatility for bikepacking adventures.
