Waheela R: Elevating the Otso Platform!

by VeloMagster

Otso Cycles has unveiled the Waheela R, a dedicated gravel racing bike that builds upon the versatile Waheela C platform. This new model introduces several design enhancements aimed at delivering superior performance on challenging terrains.

Geometry and Handling

The Waheela R features a refined geometry tailored for high-speed stability and comfort. Notable adjustments include a 1-degree slacker head tube angle and an increase in reach by over 20mm compared to the Waheela C. Additionally, the seat tube angle has been steepened by 1.5°, and the trail has been significantly increased, promoting a more upright riding position. Despite these changes, the rear end remains relatively short to maintain agility, with size-specific stays and UDH compatibility. The rear center measures 420mm on the XS frame, extending up to 432mm on the XL.

Frame Construction and Compliance

Engineered for gravel racing demands, the Waheela R’s carbon frame is designed to balance stiffness and compliance. This approach enhances power transfer while effectively absorbing vibrations from rough terrains. The frame’s design ensures a stable and responsive ride, even at high speeds.

Aerodynamics and Cable Routing

The Waheela R incorporates aerodynamic features such as Kamm Tail shapes on both the frame and fork, a design commonly found in high-performance vehicles and backed by extensive wind tunnel testing. For cable management, the bike offers three routing options:

  • Classic Routing: Cables enter at the top of the downtube.
  • Semi-Internal Routing: Cables are routed under the handlebars and enter the frame at the headset top cap.
  • Fully Internal Routing: Cables are entirely concealed within the frame and handlebars.

Frame Features and Design

The Waheela R is equipped with internal frame storage and clearance for up to 50mm tires, accommodating a wide range of gravel conditions. It includes multiple mounting points, such as three bottle cage mounts, multiple top tube mounts, and fender mounts, enhancing its versatility for various riding scenarios. The bike is future-proofed with UDH dropouts, ensuring compatibility with modern drivetrain standards.

Build Options and Pricing

Otso offers five build configurations for the Waheela R, with prices ranging from just over $4,000 to $5,450. The frame-only option is available for $2,950. Builds include:

  • SRAM Force XPLR AXS 1×13 ($5,450)
  • Shimano GRX 800 Di2 1×12 ($5,250)
  • SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 1×13 ($4,850)
  • Shimano GRX 600 ($4,250)
