Trek and Electra E-Bikes Recalled Due to Rear Wheel Bolt Failure

In January 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall affecting approximately 19,890 Trek and Electra electric bicycles. The recall pertains to specific 2026 models, including the Trek FX+ 1 series and Electra Townie Go! series, due to a safety hazard involving the rear wheel bolts.

Affected Models:

  • Trek FX+ 1 Series:

    • FX+ 1 Midstep
    • FX+ 1S Midstep
    • FX+ 1 Stepover
    • FX+ 1S Stepover
  • Electra Townie Go! Series:

These models were sold at Trek stores, authorized retailers, and online between April and October 2025, with prices around $2,100. (bicycleretailer.com)

Issue Details:

The recall was initiated due to reports that the rear wheel bolts, which connect the motor to the rear frame, can break when torqued. This failure may lead to the rear wheel detaching, posing a fall hazard to riders. To date, there have been seven reports of the bolts breaking; however, no injuries have been reported.
