Rocky Mountain, the renowned Canadian mountain bike manufacturer, is set to reintroduce its electric mountain bike (e-MTB) range to the UK market this spring. This move follows a period of limited availability and coincides with the brand’s expanded presence in Europe, including the acquisition of a German specialist distributor. (cyclingindustry.news)
The reintroduction of Rocky Mountain’s e-MTBs offers UK riders access to a diverse lineup of models, encompassing trail, enduro, downhill, cross-country, and youth categories. A standout in this range is the Instinct Powerplay trail bike family, which will be available through selected retailers starting this spring. Notably, the C50 build is expected to arrive by June.
Designed for versatility, the Instinct Powerplay features 150mm of rear travel and a 145mm fork, positioning it as a capable option within the trail bike segment. Rocky Mountain has engineered this model to be both playful and resilient, suitable for various mountain riding conditions. The bike’s carbon frame is crafted to deliver agile handling, while its aggressive geometry ensures stability during technical descents. Additionally, the geometry is adjustable, allowing riders to choose between a consistent wheel size setup or a mullet configuration with a 27.5-inch rear wheel and a 29-inch front wheel. The mullet setup slackens the geometry further, enhancing control on steep descents.
Powering the Instinct Powerplay is Rocky Mountain’s proprietary Dyname S4 Lite motor, delivering a peak output of 700W and 75Nm of torque. This robust motor ensures that hill climbing is as enjoyable as descending. The bike is equipped with a 480Wh removable battery on lighter build kits, with options for larger batteries and more powerful motors available in mid-range models.
The Instinct Powerplay SL Carbon 70, featured at the beginning of this article, is priced at £8,199. This premium build boasts refined suspension kinematics that maximize the performance of the Fox 36 GRIP X Performance Elite fork and the Fox Float X Performance Elite rear shock. Gearing is managed wirelessly, facilitated by a rechargeable battery integrated into the Sram GX Eagle derailleur and controlled via a handlebar remote.
Rocky Mountain’s Powerplay Instinct range will be available in the UK across four frame sizes, from small to extra-large. Each bike comes with an industry-leading five-year transferable warranty on key components, underscoring the brand’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
