RIDONKULOUS Big Bike Night: Empowering Women and Girls in Hawick

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the historic Auld Baths in Hawick will host the RIDONKULOUS Big Bike Night, a dynamic event aimed at encouraging women and girls to embrace active travel through cycling. This initiative is a collaboration between The FNY Collective and Scottish Borders Council, designed to address and overcome barriers such as mechanical issues and lack of confidence that often deter women and girls from cycling.

Event Highlights:

  • The Skills Arena: Featuring indoor ramps, skinnies, and balance features. All bikes are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

  • The Puncture Pit: A fast-paced, head-to-head maintenance challenge to build essential trail-side and roadside repair skills.

  • The Creative Zone: Hands-on workshops for decorating display bikes and creating tool-based art.

  • The Social Pit-Stop: A massive “Active Travel” social featuring locally sourced pizza, ice cream, and custom-made bike cupcakes.

Aneela McKenna, Co-Founder of The FNY Collective, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We are bringing a festival energy to the Auld Baths to show that active travel is for everyone. Whether you are cycling to school, the shops, or work, we want to provide the skills and the community support to make that journey possible.”

Councillor Jenny Linehan, Executive Member for Environment, Sustainability, and Transport for Scottish Borders Council, added, “This partnership is a key part of our commitment to making active travel the natural choice for everyday journeys in Hawick. By breaking down barriers in a fun, no-pressure environment, we are helping to build a healthier, more connected, and sustainable community.”
