Revel Bikes Unveils ‘El Jefe Grande’ in Concept Labs

Revel Bikes has launched ‘Concept Labs,’ a new initiative dedicated to exploring innovative geometries, crafting unique prototypes, and testing early-stage ideas. The inaugural project, ‘El Jefe Grande,’ introduces a 32-inch wheel version of their renowned titanium El Jefe hardtail.

Exploring New Frontiers in Wheel Size

The ‘El Jefe Grande’ project comprises two distinct titanium hardtail prototypes:

  1. Full 32-Inch Hardtail: An extra-large frame equipped with 32-inch wheels, designed to assess the performance and handling characteristics of this larger wheel size.

  2. ‘Mega Mullet’ Configuration: A medium-sized frame featuring a 32-inch front wheel paired with a 29-inch rear wheel, aiming to combine the benefits of both wheel sizes for enhanced versatility.

Mike Giese, Director of Product at Revel Bikes, shared insights into the project:

“We’ve been watching the 32-inch movement closely, and we got too curious to stay on the sidelines. So we built two hardtails. A size XL running 32/32, and a size medium Mega Mullet running 32 up front and 29 out back. Not because we know the answer yet, but because we think wheel configuration and frame sizing might work together in ways we haven’t fully explored. The right wheel combo could give a rider better fit and handling than sizing alone ever could. We’re in the testing phase. We’re learning. And honestly, it’s a blast.”

Commitment to Innovation and Rider Engagement

The Concept Labs initiative underscores Revel Bikes’ dedication to innovation and active engagement with the cycling community. By sharing these experimental projects, Revel aims to foster a collaborative dialogue with riders, ensuring that their development process remains transparent and responsive to user feedback.
