Mads Pedersen’s Unexpected Return to Milan-San Remo

Danish cyclist Mads Pedersen is set to participate in the 2026 Milan-San Remo on Saturday, March 21, despite earlier indications that he would miss the race due to injuries sustained in February. The announcement was made by his team, Lidl-Trek, via social media.

Injury Setback and Recovery

In early February, Pedersen suffered a significant crash during the first stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, resulting in fractures to his left wrist and right collarbone. This incident cast doubt on his participation in the spring Classics. However, his recovery has progressed well, with the collarbone healing swiftly. The wrist injury, though more complicated, has also shown signs of improvement.

Pedersen’s Statement

Reflecting on his unexpected return, Pedersen stated, “Honestly, the plan wasn’t to ride San Remo. But we’ve done some really good training sessions, and we wanted to see specific values to also have a chance for a good result in this race. After a few hard training sessions this week, we believe it’s a good decision to race again, pin on a number, and get comfortable in a race again.” (cyclingnews.com)

Team Lineup and Absences

Pedersen will be joined by teammates Mathias Vacek, Giulio Ciccone, Søren Kragh Andersen, Andrea Bagioli, Mathias Norsgaard, and Matteo Sobrero. Notably, Jonathan Milan will not participate due to illness following the Tirreno-Adriatico. (cyclingnews.com)

Looking Ahead

Pedersen’s return to Milan-San Remo is a testament to his resilience and determination. As he lines up for the race, all eyes will be on his performance, especially considering his previous strong showings in the Classics.
