Orbea Unveils the Carpe Series: A New Era in Urban E-Bikes

Orbea has expanded its urban e-bike lineup with the introduction of the Carpe series, designed for commuters and daily riders seeking an integrated, lightweight solution for city travel. This new model complements Orbea’s Urban and Active families, offering a sleek design combined with practical features tailored for urban mobility.

Aesthetic and Functional Design

The Carpe series seamlessly blends a minimalist aesthetic with everyday practicality. Key features include integrated lighting, modular rear racks, and design elements that facilitate storage in compact living spaces. The unisex frame employs Orbea’s “Twin Glide Flex” concept, positioning the seat tube lower within the frame to create a larger, flexible section that absorbs typical vibrations and bumps encountered in city traffic. This design approach enhances comfort and stability during rides. Additionally, the carbon fork and Urban-Active geometry contribute to agile yet controlled handling, while the low step-through design simplifies mounting and dismounting, particularly beneficial in dense urban environments.

Advanced Urban Platform

As part of Orbea’s Urban and Active platform, the Carpe series incorporates technologies specifically tailored for urban mobility. These include an adaptable cockpit and modular transport solutions for both front and rear. An integrated lighting system enhances visibility, ensuring safety in city traffic. The Shimano EP6 mid-drive motor delivers up to 85 Nm of torque, optimized for urban settings, and is paired with a 420 Wh battery integrated into the down tube. For extended range, the system is compatible with an optional 252 Wh range extender.

Practical Everyday Features

Beyond its performance, the Carpe series is designed with urban living in mind. The handlebar can rotate 90 degrees, and the pedals are foldable, allowing the bike to occupy less space when stored in apartments, basements, or bike compartments. Safety is prioritized with an integrated lighting system and the option to install frame locks. A concealed compartment within the frame accommodates Bluetooth trackers, enabling users to locate their parked bike easily.

Model Variations

The Carpe series offers three models, each catering to different preferences and needs:

  • Carpe 10: The flagship model features a Gates CDX belt drive combined with an electronic Shimano Nexus Inter-5 Di2 hub gear system. Additional features include foldable pedals, a foldable stem, and an integrated rear rack. Weight: 20.92 kg.

  • Carpe 20: This mid-range variant utilizes a Shimano Cues 9-speed derailleur system and a traditional chain. It includes a rear rack, fenders, and a lighting system, making it well-suited for daily commuting. Weight: 19.69 kg.

  • Carpe 25: The entry-level model also employs the Shimano Cues 9-speed system but omits the rear rack, fenders, and kickstand, resulting in a lighter weight of 17.72 kg.

Pricing and Availability

The Carpe series is competitively priced to accommodate a range of budgets:

  • Carpe 25: Starting at €2,999

  • Carpe 20: Priced at €3,299

  • Carpe 10: Available for €4,199

All models are available in four frame sizes and three color options: Nickel, Mars Red (Gloss), and Diamond Black (Matt).

A Shift Towards Mid-Drive Motors

The introduction of the Carpe series marks a strategic shift for Orbea, moving away from the hub motors featured in the previous Vibe series. This transition indicates a stronger emphasis on traditional mid-drive motor systems, aligning with the growing trend in urban e-bikes that prioritize performance and integration.

With the Carpe series, Orbea continues to innovate in the urban e-bike sector, offering riders a blend of style, functionality, and advanced technology for an enhanced city commuting experience.
