After covering 500 kilometers with the Riese & Müller Multicharger3 Mixte, it’s evident: this is a cargo bike that delivers the sensation of riding a traditional bicycle. Riese & Müller’s e-bike offers ample cargo space while maintaining the agility, comfort, and riding pleasure akin to a conventional bike.
A Cargo Bike Designed for Daily Life
The Multicharger 3 Mixte has been my companion for various journeys: daily commutes from my village to the city, traversing asphalt roads, bike lanes, some unpaved paths, weekly shopping, and urban trips exceeding 60 kilometers in a day.
The standout feature is the balance between load capacity and ease of use. The rear rack can carry up to 65 kg, accommodating children, groceries, bags, backpacks, or work equipment.
Surprisingly, while riding, I often forget I’m on a cargo bike. The position feels natural, stability is excellent, and even after many kilometers, it remains precise and enjoyable to ride.
Comfort and Stability: The Role of Suspension and Tires
One of the most appreciated aspects is the comfort.
The Multicharger 3 Mixte features a front suspension fork with 80 mm of travel, designed to absorb bumps, cobblestones, and uneven road surfaces.
However, the real advantage comes from the combination: the suspension and wide tires work harmoniously. The larger wheels enhance stability, reduce vibrations, and make long-distance rides more relaxed.
Bosch Smart System: Advanced Assistance and Features
The electric assistance is powerful yet natural: the Bosch motor supports pedaling without replacing it. In traffic, starting from a standstill, and when the bike is loaded, the power delivery remains balanced and smooth. The connection with the app and digital functions make the Multicharger 3 Mixte a bike designed for daily use, not just a simple e-bike.
The Bosch Kiox 500 display is intuitive and easy to read, while the eBike Flow app adds convenience in managing data and settings.
Security Features: The Role of RX Connect
For a bike that can become the primary mode of transportation for many, having integrated security features adds peace of mind during stops.
Thanks to an integrated chip and connected services, RX Connect allows monitoring the bike’s location, receiving notifications in case of movement, recording routes, and consulting usage statistics through the dedicated app. The service is available for free for the first year.
Who Is This Bike For?
The Riese & Müller Multicharger is primarily designed for those who want to use it frequently and replace the car for many trips. The weight, approximately 30 kg depending on the configuration, is noticeable when moving it by hand, loading it, or managing it in tight spaces.
However, during the ride, the Bosch motor and geometry make the mass feel much less. The main limitations are the weight and the fact that it’s not a cargo bike designed to transport enormous amounts of material.
Its strong point is the balance: it carries a lot but remains natural to pedal.
After 500 km, my impression is this: the Multicharger 3 Mixte takes the concept of a cargo bike and makes it daily. It’s a bike capable of carrying a lot but enjoyable enough to want to use even when there’s nothing to carry.
Overview of the Multicharger Range: Models and Configurations
The Multicharger range consists of various versions tailored to slightly different needs. The Multicharger3 and Multicharger3 Mixte models start at approximately €5,129, featuring the Bosch Smart System with Bosch Cargo Line motor and batteries configurable between 625 and 1000 Wh: the main difference is in the frame, standard in the first case and with a lowered top tube in the Mixte version.
Below this range are the Multicharger2 and Multicharger2 Mixte models, priced from approximately €4,619, equipped with the Bosch Performance Line motor and 750 or 1000 Wh batteries, with more accessible configuration options (even 625 Wh) in the EASY version.
