Cat’s Challenge: Top Talent Out for the Tour

by VeloMagster

Cat Ferguson, the 20-year-old British cyclist and rising star of the Movistar team, has been dealt a significant setback following a crash during the opening stage of the Giro d’Italia Women. The incident resulted in two fractures in her ankle, sidelining her from the upcoming Tour de France Femmes.

Prior to this misfortune, Ferguson had been in exceptional form, securing victories at the Navarra Women’s Elite Classic and a podium finish at The Traka 100 gravel race. Her promising season took a downturn with the crash in the Giro d’Italia Women, leading to her withdrawal from the race. Medical evaluations revealed the ankle fractures, necessitating a period of rest and rehabilitation.

The Movistar team expressed their support for Ferguson, stating, “This news is a setback. Cat will need several weeks to recover, allowing the broken bones to heal properly and the other injuries to recover sufficiently.” They further added, “Therefore, she will not be able to participate in the upcoming national championships and the Tour de France.” The team concluded with, “We wish you all the best, Cat! We sympathize with you.”

Ferguson’s absence from the Tour de France Femmes is a notable loss, as she had been anticipated to be a strong contender. Her resilience and determination, however, suggest a promising return to competition once she has fully recovered.
