Bosch eBike Systems has unveiled a suite of enhancements to its eCity bike lineup, focusing on elevating daily commutes and leisure rides. The latest innovations include the upgraded Active Line Plus motor, the new Intuvia 200 display, a compact LED Controller, an enhanced ConnectModule, and the PowerTube 720 battery.
Active Line Plus Motor: Enhanced Performance and Efficiency
The centerpiece of Bosch’s eCity advancements is the revamped Active Line Plus motor. This mid-drive unit now delivers up to 60 Nm of torque, a peak power output of 600 watts, and supports up to 340% of the rider’s pedaling force. These improvements translate to swift acceleration at traffic lights, seamless hill climbing, and a smooth riding experience in urban environments. Notably, the motor has been reduced in size and weight, now approximately 500 grams lighter at around 2.7 kilograms. Its new transmission system decreases volume by 17%, facilitating more discreet integration into bike frames. Additionally, the housing is composed of about 40% recycled aluminum, underscoring Bosch’s commitment to sustainability.
Intuvia 200 Display: Clear Information on the Go
Accompanying the motor upgrade is the Intuvia 200 display. This 2.4-inch screen emphasizes simplicity and readability, featuring large digits, an intuitive layout, and automatic brightness adjustment up to 1,000 cd/m². Riders can customize the display to show data such as speed, range, heart rate, or smartphone battery status. Depending on the e-bike’s configuration, the screen can also provide information on ABS systems or electronic gear shifting.
Compact LED Controller: Streamlined Control
The new LED Controller succeeds the previous LED Remote, offering a 65% reduction in size for a cleaner and more organized handlebar setup. With five tactile buttons, all essential functions remain easily accessible without removing hands from the handlebars. An integrated USB-C port allows for convenient charging of external devices during rides.
Enhanced Security with ConnectModule
Bosch has bolstered e-bike security with the updated ConnectModule, now utilizing Bluetooth Low Energy technology alongside GPS and mobile data communication. This enhancement enables precise location tracking of a stolen e-bike, even in areas with limited GPS signals, such as basements or enclosed courtyards. Integrated with the eBike Flow app, the system alerts owners to suspicious movements and allows tracking via the optional Flow+ service.
PowerTube 720 Battery: Extended Range for Longer Rides
For riders seeking extended distances, Bosch introduces the PowerTube 720 battery. This integrated battery offers a capacity that, under ideal conditions, provides a range of up to 185 kilometers. Despite its high energy density, it maintains a weight of approximately 3.9 kilograms. The battery is compatible with various Bosch PowerTube variants, offering manufacturers and users greater flexibility. It also supports the digital Battery Lock function, which automatically disables and renders a stolen battery unusable upon detection.
Focus on Daily Use
With these innovations, Bosch aims to cater to the growing number of cyclists who use their e-bikes daily for commuting, errands, and recreational outings. The enhancements in power, reduced weight, improved connectivity, and added security are designed to make eCity bikes an even more attractive alternative to automobiles.
These developments reflect Bosch’s dedication to advancing e-bike technology, ensuring that urban mobility remains efficient, sustainable, and enjoyable for all riders.
