Bizbike, the Belgian cycling company renowned for its mobile service across Flanders and the manufacturers of Beaufort and Veloci bicycle brands, has raised €5,500 for the charity ‘Kom Op Tegen Kanker’ during the ‘De 1000 km’ event. (iteuropa.com)

‘De 1000 km’ is a cycling event where teams of one to eight cyclists pedal against cancer over four days, each team raising funds for vital cancer research. This edition saw 6,500 cyclists participating, each with their own story or reason for joining. Former professional footballer Toby Alderweireld serves as the patron of the organisation.

The initiative was driven by Bizbike’s employees. Nico Cossyns, Head of Sales and participant, stated, “Who doesn’t know someone with cancer in their immediate environment? It’s a dreadful disease, but one that can be overcome if we continue to support cancer research. So far, we’ve had a wonderful year at Bizbike, with beautiful recognitions and results, so we felt it was time to contribute ourselves.”

He further added, “What surprised me enormously was the infectiousness within the Bizbike team to roll up our sleeves. Together with three other colleagues – Xander, Davy, and Koen – we covered 1,000 kilometres by bike, which gave the team spirit an enormous boost. Other colleagues also developed projects, such as making and selling candles.”

Bizbike has announced plans to participate again in next year’s ‘De 1000 km’ and hopes to raise even more funds for ‘Kom Op Tegen Kanker’ with additional teams.

In related news, other cycling events have also contributed significantly to charitable causes. For instance, the LILA LOGISTIK Charity Bike Cup raised €5,000 for Lebenshilfe Leonberg, focusing on programs for children with disabilities. These initiatives highlight the growing trend of cycling events being used as platforms to support various charitable causes, fostering community engagement and promoting health and well-being.
