In a progressive move to enhance urban mobility, Bari has unveiled an innovative system for secure bicycle parking, addressing a longstanding concern for daily cyclists. The initiative introduces a network of modern bike stations and smart benches equipped with charging facilities, all managed via a dedicated app.

Recognizing the need for secure parking solutions, Bari’s municipal administration has launched a comprehensive system designed to meet the real needs of cyclists. An Eight-Month Pilot Program
The service, initially set for an eight-month trial, has been entrusted to Bici in Città Italia S.r.l. It strategically covers key areas of the city, including schools, hospitals, train stations, parks, and the seafront.
22 Bike Stations with 176 Secure Spots
Central to the project are 22 bike stations distributed throughout Bari. These structures, powered by photovoltaic panels, offer a total of 176 secure parking spots. Each station features enclosed spaces where cyclists can safely store their bikes or e-scooters. Additionally, internal hooks provide convenient storage for helmets or backpacks. An automatic LED light activates upon opening the compartment, facilitating use during early morning or evening hours.
5 ‘Smart’ Benches for E-Bike Charging
Complementing the bike stations are five ‘smart’ benches installed in strategic locations such as the Bus Terminal and the seafront. These benches, designed for rest, conceal six secure compartments accessible via a code. Inside, users find not only protected storage but also USB ports and traditional electrical outlets, catering to those needing to recharge their e-bikes during a break.
Integration with the Weelo App
This physical network seamlessly integrates with the Weelo app, allowing users to view station maps, check real-time availability of secure spots, and unlock compartments by scanning a QR code. The city is finalizing regulations, including potential fees and maximum parking durations, to ensure efficient turnover and prevent long-term private use of these facilities.
