Hunt has unveiled its latest flagship gravel wheelset, the 5AM Gravel Limitless, designed to offer a harmonious blend of aerodynamics and lightweight performance. This wheelset features a distinctive ‘aero mullet’ rim pairing, combining a deeper, wider front rim with a shallower, narrower rear rim. This configuration aims to optimise aerodynamic efficiency while maintaining low weight, a design approach also seen in Specialized’s Roval Rapide CLX III wheels. (bikeradar.com)
Key Features:
-
Rim Dimensions: The front rim boasts a 54mm depth and a 45mm external width, while the rear rim has a 49mm depth and a 38mm external width. Both rims feature a 27mm internal width, accommodating tyres ranging from 40mm to 60mm. (us.huntbikewheels.com)
-
Material and Construction: Utilising Hunt’s patented Limitless technology, the rims are constructed with a unique carbon fibre layup strategy, incorporating T700, T800, T1000, and High Modulus Pyrofil HR4012M carbon. This design reduces weight without compromising strength. (us.huntbikewheels.com)
-
Spokes: The wheelset offers two build options: one with steel spokes and another with carbon spokes. The carbon-spoked version weighs a claimed 1,317g, while the steel-spoked version weighs 1,447g. (escapecollective.com)
-
Rim Beads: The rims feature ultra-wide bead profiles—9mm on the front and 5.5mm on the rear—to enhance rim strength and reduce the likelihood of pinch flats. (bikeradar.com)
-
Tubeless Compatibility: Designed with a hookless or ‘Tubeless Straight Side’ profile, the rims are tubeless-ready, allowing for lower tyre pressures and reduced rolling resistance. (bikeradar.com)
Pricing and Availability:
The Hunt 5AM Gravel Limitless wheels are available for pre-order, with delivery slated for December 1st. The steel-spoked version is priced at £1,999 / $2,399 / €2,399, while the carbon-spoked version starts at £2,449 / $2,899 / €2,899. (escapecollective.com)
