Felt’s latest innovation, the Nexar, emerges as the lightest aero bike in the brand’s history, yet it doesn’t compromise on speed or comfort. With a claimed frame weight of 800g and an overall weight of 6.48kg for the top Dura-Ace specification, the Nexar is engineered for high performance. Felt asserts that its aerodynamics are within 4 watts of the leading aero road bikes.
The Nexar succeeds the AR model, Felt’s original aero road bike introduced 18 years ago and last updated in 2020. The name ‘Nexar’ signifies ‘Next AR,’ highlighting its evolution. Independent testing indicates that the Nexar is 5% faster than its predecessor and within 4 watts of its unnamed fastest competitor at 40 km/h.
To enhance aerodynamics, Felt has refined the frame’s frontal profile by reducing the width of the head tube, optimizing the top tube/down tube interface, and minimizing the wake behind the head tube. The frame tubes have been slimmed, and cables, bolts, and other hardware are now hidden to reduce wind resistance.
The frame has been updated to improve stiffness while adding compliance. This includes larger headset bearings, increased vibration absorption in the rear triangle, and a reinforced bottom bracket. The design accommodates 32mm tires, offering versatility for various road conditions.
The Nexar’s geometry has been adjusted to provide a more comfortable riding position. The stack is slightly higher, and the reach is shorter compared to the AR. A steeper seat tube angle and a zero-offset seatpost position the rider further over the pedals, enhancing pedaling efficiency. Felt claims this revised position benefits 99% of performance riders by making longer rides more comfortable.
In line with current trends, Felt has equipped the Nexar with shorter cranks, ranging from 165mm to 170mm across the seven frame sizes, ensuring consistent biomechanics.
The Nexar is available in two frame grades with different carbon specifications. The Nexar FRD and Pro models feature the higher-spec 800g frame, approximately 300g lighter than the AR. All specifications come with a one-piece cockpit, replacing the AR’s separate bar and stem, contributing to a claimed total bike weight of 6.48kg for the top FRD spec in a size-54 frame.
Felt was established in 1991 in California by Jim Felt, who built its original tri bike before branching out into road, track, and more. Over the years, Felt’s bikes have been ridden by notable professionals, including Bradley Wiggins and Wout van Aert. Since November 2025, Felt has been 100% owned by a duo of Spanish partners and is now based in Barcelona, with a series of new performance drop-bar and tri bikes slated for launch this year and next, distributed via a global dealer network.
