In addition to trail maintenance, the partnership aims to plant approximately 3,600 native broadleaf trees over the next three years. The restoration work will commence at Vernditch, an ancient woodland in North Dorset that was historically replanted with non-native conifers. Reintroducing native species such as oak, hazel, and hornbeam is expected to enhance biodiversity and create new habitats for wildlife. Professional aftercare will ensure the trees establish and thrive for years to come.
