The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) is renowned for its innovative fundraising initiatives, notably the “5 Bucks a Foot” campaign. This initiative invites cycling enthusiasts and outdoor aficionados to contribute to the development and maintenance of trails in the Lost Sierra region. For every $5 donated—equivalent to the average cost of constructing one foot of trail—participants earn an entry into a drawing for a chance to win a unique, custom-outfitted Evil Chamois Hagar gravel bike. The campaign runs until June 30, 2026, offering donors an opportunity to support trail projects while potentially acquiring a high-performance bicycle.
The Custom Evil Chamois Hagar
The centerpiece of this year’s campaign is a bespoke Evil Chamois Hagar, a gravel bike that embodies versatility and durability. Designed with a long front-center, extended reach, and slack headtube, the Chamois Hagar is equipped with seven bottle cages and multiple gear mounts, accommodating up to 50mm tires. This configuration makes it suitable for extended bikepacking adventures, daily commuting, or competitive racing events like the Lost & Found Gravel Festival.
The custom build features a Shimano GRX 12-speed mechanical drivetrain and GRX brakes, White Industries cranks, bottom bracket, and hubs, carbon Astral Luna rims, Paul Component Boxcar stem, Fox Kashima-coated Transfer dropper post, carbon WTB saddle, 50mm WTB Resolute tires, and is finished with a full set of Loam Equipment bags and Camp and Go Slow Eastern Rattler bar tape. Additionally, the grand prize includes a Patagonia Provisions Taste of Provisions box set and a Patagonia Dirt Roamer riding kit, comprising men’s or women’s shorts, a long-sleeved jersey, and socks.
Supporting Trail Development
Proceeds from the “5 Bucks a Foot” campaign directly fund SBTS’s mission to strengthen mountain communities through trails. Specifically, the funds support the Connected Communities Project, a long-term vision to link 15 mountain towns via multi-use singletrack trails. This initiative aims to establish a network of 527 miles of singletrack, enhancing recreational opportunities and bolstering local economies. Trail projects funded by this campaign include completing the final quarter-mile of the Beckwourth Peak project in Portola, finishing the Verdi Ridge trail in the East Zone Connectivity Project, and laying the groundwork for the Cottonwood Connectivity Project in the Sierra Valley.
How to Participate
The “5 Bucks a Foot” campaign runs from June 10 to June 30, 2026. For every foot of trail purchased at $5 per foot, participants receive one entry into the drawing. The more feet of trail you purchase, the better your chances of winning. The winner will be drawn using a random number generator and announced via email and social media. This campaign is open to U.S. and international entries. The winner will be able to select the frame size of their choice: small through XL.
