Bosch eBike Systems is set to revolutionize the pre-owned eBike market with its innovative “Certified by Bosch” program, launching in July 2026. This digital certification aims to provide transparency and trust for buyers of used eBikes, ensuring they receive a product that meets Bosch’s high standards.
Key Features of the “Certified by Bosch” Program:
-
Comprehensive Assessment: The certification evaluates critical components such as the battery and drive unit, offering insights into their current condition.
-
Transparent Rating System: An intuitive star-based rating system presents the technical evaluation, covering:
- Battery: Displays remaining capacity percentage and the number of charge cycles completed.
- Drive Unit: Assesses operational parameters like total distance traveled and power output.
-
Model Identification: The certificate includes essential details like brand, model year, and frame number, ensuring authenticity.
-
Theft Prevention: Integration with the eBike Flow app confirms that the eBike is not reported as stolen, adding an extra layer of security.
-
Authenticity Verification: Users can verify the certificate’s authenticity online via a QR code, minimizing the risk of counterfeiting.
Launch and Partnerships:
The rollout begins in July 2026, with Rebike, a specialist in eBike refurbishment, as the first partner to adopt the certification for all Bosch-equipped eBikes. Initially, certified eBikes will be available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands through Rebike’s direct channels, partner marketplaces, and Decathlon’s shop-in-shop spaces. Expansion to other European markets, including Italy, is planned for a later date. Starting in early 2027, Bosch eBike Systems will extend the program to support specialist bicycle retailers across Europe in issuing digital certifications for pre-owned models.
Environmental Impact:
The “Certified by Bosch” initiative aligns with sustainable mobility goals by promoting the reuse of existing products. Extending the lifecycle of eBikes helps conserve resources and reduces the environmental footprint associated with manufacturing new components. Purchasing a pre-owned eBike can lead to a CO₂ emission reduction of up to 208 kg compared to producing an equivalent new vehicle, representing approximately 80% of the emissions associated with manufacturing a new eBike.
By introducing this certification, Bosch eBike Systems not only enhances the reliability and appeal of pre-owned eBikes but also contributes to a more sustainable and transparent market, benefiting both consumers and the environment.
