At the 2026 Sea Otter Classic, Kuat Racks unveiled several innovative products that promise to redefine outdoor gear transportation. Among the highlights were the Varial Rooftop Cargo Box, the Pivot v3 Swing-Away Adapter, and the Drop In Vertical Hitch Rack Concept.
Varial Rooftop Cargo Box
Kuat’s inaugural rooftop cargo box, the Varial, introduces a forward-opening design with three-sided access, enhancing loading and unloading efficiency. Integrated gas struts facilitate smooth operation, while forward air inlets improve aerodynamics and reduce noise. Constructed from UV-capped, double-coated ABS, the Varial boasts durability and a sleek, rivet-free exterior. It offers 18 cubic feet of storage, accommodating skis up to 195 cm, and features internal tie-down points for secure gear storage. The Varial is priced at $1,289 for the black model and $1,398 for the bronze, with availability slated for October 2026. (kuat.com)
Pivot v3 Swing-Away Adapter
The Pivot v3 is Kuat’s latest swing-away hitch adapter, designed to provide unobstructed access to vehicle rear areas without removing the bike rack. It offers 90° and 120° swing-away positions and supports up to 250 lbs. Notable enhancements include a newly engineered safety pin closure system for increased stability and a reinforced hitch tube for long-term reliability. The Pivot v3 is compatible with 2” hitch receivers and is priced at $549, with shipments expected to commence in June 2026. (kuat.com)
Drop In Vertical Hitch Rack Concept
Kuat presented a prototype of the Drop In, a vertical hitch rack capable of transporting up to six bikes with flat handlebars or four with drop bars. Designed for road, gravel, mountain, and kids’ bikes without front fenders, it utilizes rubber straps to secure the rear wheel and a wheel basket for the front wheel. The Drop In accommodates wheel sizes from 20” to 32” in diameter and tires up to 2.5” wide, with an accessory in development for fat tires up to 5” wide. It has a maximum wheelbase length of 53” (1,350mm) and a projected total weight capacity of 250 lbs. The rack itself is estimated to weigh around 95 lbs. While still in the concept phase, the Drop In is projected to be available in spring 2027.
These innovations underscore Kuat Racks’ commitment to enhancing the outdoor experience through thoughtfully engineered solutions.
