32-Inch Gravel Revolution: Schwalbe’s Game Changer

by VeloMagster

Schwalbe, the renowned German tyre manufacturer, has announced the upcoming release of its first 32-inch gravel tyres, the G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro, scheduled for April 2027. These tyres, available in 50mm and 55mm widths, are designed to meet the growing demand for 32-inch gravel bikes, a trend gaining momentum in the cycling community. (bikeradar.com)

The decision to develop these tyres stems from the increasing popularity of 32-inch wheels in gravel cycling. Schwalbe’s head of product management, Felix Schäfermeier, initially expressed skepticism about the viability of this wheel size. However, extensive testing and positive feedback have led to a change in perspective. Schäfermeier stated, “At first, we were sceptical about whether 32 inches would be a meaningful addition. But the more we tested, the clearer the conclusion became: riders on 32-inch wheels definitely notice a difference.” (bikeradar.com)

The G-One RX Pro, in particular, has demonstrated its capabilities in competitive settings. Robin Gemperle secured victory in the Unbound XL, one of the most challenging gravel races globally, using prototypes of the G-One RX Pro on a 32-inch Scott gravel bike. (bikeradar.com)

Schwalbe’s entry into the 32-inch gravel tyre market aligns with a broader industry trend. Other tyre manufacturers, including Teravail, Silca, Maxxis, Vittoria, and Kenda, are also exploring this wheel size. However, mainstream bicycle manufacturers have been more cautious. Notably, Canyon Bicycles recently built a custom 32-inch gravel bike for NBA star LeBron James, highlighting the potential of this wheel size for taller riders. (cyclingweekly.com)

As the 32-inch gravel bike segment continues to evolve, Schwalbe’s forthcoming tyre offerings are poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of gravel cycling.
