Here there were no crowded ticket offices or barriers: they literally pedaled on the decumanus, among columns, walls, and the Roman theater, in a silence broken only by the rustling of tires on the cobblestones. Saepinum stood at an intersection of tratturi, the Pescasseroli-Candela passes right through here, and cycling through it gave the physical sensation of traversing a path that men and flocks have trodden for over two thousand years.
