Cat Lost on Swiss Mountain Follows Hikers to 10,000-Foot-Tall Summit for Company and ComfortJJ Yosh and Simon: Conquering the Seven Summits Together

Adventure filmmaker and TV host JJ Yosh, based in Boulder, Colorado, has embarked on a remarkable journey with his rescue cat, Simon. Known as the “Backpacking Kitty,” Simon has been Yosh’s steadfast companion on numerous expeditions, including hikes across the Austrian Alps, whitewater rafting on California’s Sacramento River, and climbing a volcano in Guatemala. Together, they’ve traversed over 15 countries and four continents, amassing a combined following of over 11 million on Instagram and TikTok. (jjyosh.com)

Their latest endeavor is even more ambitious: a multi-year quest to summit the tallest mountains on each continent, collectively known as the Seven Summits. This includes Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Aconcagua in South America, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, Puncak Jaya in Oceania, and the pinnacle, Mount Everest in Asia.

Preparation and Acclimatization

Acclimatization is crucial for both Yosh and Simon. Living at approximately 6,000 feet in Boulder, they’ve been gradually exposed to higher altitudes. Regular mountaineering outings in Colorado’s high country have prepared Simon for the thinner air, while Yosh has taken Simon on technical rope climbs, securing him in a small-dog harness. Simon has also been outfitted with specialized gear for various climates and conditions. (jjyosh.com)

Mount Everest Expedition

For their Everest expedition, Yosh has made it clear that Simon will not ascend to the summit. Instead, Simon will stay at Everest Base Camp with a trusted pet sitter. Yosh emphasizes that Simon’s health and safety are paramount, and any decisions regarding their journey will be made with veterinary advice. (jjyosh.com)

Logistics and Travel

Traveling with Simon involves meticulous planning. He holds a U.S. ID card and an E.U. pet passport, facilitating border crossings. Yosh ensures Simon has all necessary health certificates for each country they visit. Despite the challenges, Simon remains enthusiastic about their adventures, always eager to explore new destinations. (jjyosh.com)

Conclusion

JJ Yosh and Simon’s journey is a testament to the bond between humans and animals and the spirit of adventure. Their shared experiences inspire countless followers to embrace the outdoors and pursue their passions, no matter the obstacles.
