The MADE Bike Show, the world’s largest showcase of handmade bicycles, has returned to Portland, Oregon, for its fourth annual event. Among the standout builders at this year’s show is Rare Earth Cycle from River Falls, Wisconsin. Led by Brian Hall, Rare Earth Cycle is renowned for its creative designs and meticulous attention to detail. Rare Earth Rare Berd<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rare Berd showcases an innovative construction method where an interior skeleton of 3\/8-inch tubing is enveloped in 4130 steel sheet metal. This design not only enhances aerodynamics but also offers a unique aesthetic appeal. Rare Earth Crazy Cloud<\/strong><\/p>\n

Designed specifically for the Doom bikepacking race in Arkansas, the Crazy Cloud is a short-travel 32-inch cross-country mountain bike. Hall offset the seat tube to achieve the necessary clearance for the larger wheels, and integrated a custom handlebar and stem. Rare Earth Gunni Flyer<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gunni Flyer, built for BIKEPACKING.com’s own Neil Beltchenko, features a semi-truss fork designed to accommodate 32-inch wheels. Hall also attached the chainstays to the seat tube to maintain the correct length for the larger wheels. The top tube includes parallel tubes with custom bolt-on attachments, allowing for a seamless custom frame bag.
