In a harrowing incident in Lanzo Torinese, a driver deliberately struck a group of cyclists twice after one of them raised an arm in protest of a dangerous overtaking maneuver. At 9:45 AM on Saturday, August 8, six cyclists were riding along Via Loreto in Lanzo Torinese, heading towards the Coassolo bridge. They were enjoying a leisurely group ride, maintaining a speed of about 20 km\/h. An impatient driver honked persistently as he overtook them. One of the cyclists raised his arm\u2014not in aggression, but to signal disapproval of the dangerous maneuver.<\/p>\n

The driver, Giuseppe Campagna, 73, stopped, reversed, and accelerated into the group, hitting one cyclist and sending him flying approximately 30 meters. After the collision, Campagna drove away. One cyclist pursued him to note the license plate, while the others remained to assist their injured companion.<\/p>\n

Campagna then made a U-turn and returned to the scene, where the cyclists were aiding the injured. He struck them again, causing multiple injuries. Four cyclists sustained injuries, with two airlifted to the CTO hospital in Turin, one with a severe head injury. Campagna later turned himself in to the Carabinieri of the Venaria Company. The Ivrea Prosecutor’s Office placed him under house arrest, charging him with attempted multiple homicide and multiple road injuries.<\/p>\n
