Raide LF 5L Running Vest Review: A Bounce-Free, Organized Fit

Trail running often presents challenges, especially when gear isn’t organized or secure. The Raide LF 5L Running Vest addresses these issues with thoughtful design and high-quality materials.

Design and Features

The LF 5L boasts a 5-liter capacity, ideal for long-distance runs. Its 100% Dyneema mesh base offers strength and breathability, while the DotAir stretch fabric ensures comfort without overheating. The vest includes two 600ml Hydrapak locking flasks, a zipped phone pocket with a key loop, and a rear passthrough pocket for easy access to essentials. Notably, it features an integrated pole quiver and ice tool carry, accommodating tools like trekking poles and ice axes. (backcountry.com)

Storage and Organization

The front design includes two flask pockets, two stretchy stash pockets for gels, and an iPhone-sized zipper pocket with an internal key ring. Side panels offer additional pockets for used gels or wrappers. The back panel is divided into two sections: one for poles and an extra water flask, secured with elastic loops, and a passthrough pocket for extra layers or nutrition. A zippered pocket within the passthrough is suitable for items like a first aid kit or headlamp. (gearjunkie.com)

Fit and Comfort

The LF 5L is designed to eliminate bounce, even when fully loaded. Its ventilated Dyneema base is lightweight and strong, moving with the body without sagging. The DotAir fabric stretches and returns to shape, holding gear close. The sternum strap tension system, made of inelastic nylon and sewn into the bottle pockets, provides an easy-to-adjust, tensioned fit that remains secure over time. Side panels have hidden straps to help distribute the load and ease the burden on the chest straps. Sizing is available from XS to XL, with the medium weighing 5.6 oz. (backcountry.com)

Performance

The LF 5L excels in stability and organization. Its design ensures gear stays secure, even during intense runs. The integrated pole quiver and ice tool carry are particularly beneficial for alpine adventures. However, some users have noted that the snap dividers in the vertical carry system can come undone under the weight of full water bottles. (gearjunkie.com)

Conclusion

The Raide LF 5L Running Vest is a premium, mountain-focused running vest built for long days where efficiency, bounce-free stability, and thoughtful organization matter. Its 5L capacity strikes an excellent balance with multiple stretch storage pockets for easy access, innovative vertical back pockets for trekking poles, ice axe, or additional water flasks, and an excellent sternum strap compression system. At $219, it is priced at the high end of vests, but the light weight, materials, excellent flasks, and features along with performance make it worth it. (roadtrailrun.com)
