Mads Pedersen has secured the green jersey at the 2026 Tour de France, achieving a significant milestone in his career. The Danish cyclist’s victory was solidified during Stage 20, following a strategic attack on the Col de la Croix de Fer. This move not only earned him crucial points but also demonstrated his commitment to his pre-race promise.

Before the stage, Pedersen expressed confidence in his ability to navigate the challenging climb. He stated, “I knew that the last five kilometers would be a bit flatter. I had to seize my chance and then descend well. It worked out wonderfully.” (domestiquecycling.com)

Team director Steven De Jongh acknowledged Pedersen’s determination, recalling his earlier statement: “Four days ago, Mads said: ‘I will come over the Croix de la Fer, and if I’m not with the group, I’ll close the gap myself.’ He kept his word.” (domestiquecycling.com)

Throughout the Tour, Pedersen consistently targeted points opportunities, a strategy that paid off. De Jongh noted, “Before the Tour, we agreed to go all out wherever Mads could score points and his competitors couldn’t. That ultimately made the difference.” (domestiquecycling.com)

In addition to Pedersen’s individual success, Team Lidl-Trek celebrated winning the team classification. De Jongh praised the team’s collective effort, “The boys have really ridden well as a team. They constantly set aside their own ambitions to make things possible for Mads, Juan Ayuso, or Mattias Skjelmose. I really respect those guys.” (domestiquecycling.com)

With the green jersey secured and the team classification victory, Team Lidl-Trek heads to Paris with a strong sense of accomplishment. De Jongh concluded, “I’m very satisfied, especially when you look at the Tour we’ve ridden as a team.” (domestiquecycling.com)

Highlights:
