Conservatives Championing Conservation: A New Documentary Sheds Light

In a groundbreaking documentary titled The (Conserv)atives, filmmaker Nadia Gill delves into the lives of conservative individuals who are ardently advocating for environmental conservation. The film features prominent figures such as Jessica Moerman, an evangelical preacher from Washington D.C.; Ray Gaesser, a farmer from Corning, Iowa; and Benji Backer, a 28-year-old conservation activist. These individuals exemplify the intersection of conservative values and environmental stewardship.

The documentary explores how these conservatives are integrating environmental protection into their political and personal lives. Moerman, for instance, emphasizes the moral imperative of caring for the Earth, viewing it as a divine responsibility. Gaesser highlights the direct impact of environmental health on his agricultural livelihood, advocating for sustainable farming practices. Backer, representing the younger conservative demographic, underscores the urgency of addressing climate change and environmental degradation.

The (Conserv)atives premiered at the Environmental Film Festival in Washington D.C. in March 2026 and is set to embark on a nationwide screening tour. By showcasing these individuals’ stories, the documentary seeks to inspire a broader, bipartisan approach to environmental issues.

In a similar vein, the 2026 documentary Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision examines King Charles III’s longstanding commitment to ecological balance and sustainable practices. Directed by Nicolas Brown and narrated by Kate Winslet, the film delves into the King’s philosophy of harmony, emphasizing the interconnectedness of humanity and the natural world.
