100% Tested: PRO Discover Aero Carbon Gravel Handlebar

Upgrading from a traditional handlebar to the PRO Discover Aero Carbon Gravel Handlebar has significantly enhanced my riding experience. This handlebar features a flattened top, a gentle forward sweep, and a compact drop with a 12-degree flare, offering a substantial improvement in comfort and control.

Design and Comfort

Opting for the 40 cm width, my primary focus was on comfort rather than aerodynamics. This width provides sufficient control when gripping the brake hoods and alleviates shoulder pressure during extended rides.

Handlebar and Shifter Integration

Installing this handlebar with SRAM Force shifters resulted in a seamless transition between the brake lever and the bar. The continuous flattening of the Discover Aero handlebar extends beyond the first bend, creating a smooth interface with minimal edges—a notable improvement over previous setups.

Cable Routing

The handlebar’s design facilitates efficient cable management. Brake lines are routed beneath the flattened section and can be directed into the stem for internal routing, maintaining a clean cockpit. This feature is particularly beneficial for bikes with fully internal cable routing.

Weight and Durability

Weighing 265 grams, the handlebar strikes a balance between lightweight performance and durability. Constructed from UD T700 carbon with Dyneema® fibers, it offers enhanced impact resistance and comfort, essential for gravel riding. While the weight is slightly higher than some competitors, the added durability justifies the trade-off.

Flare and Control

The 12-degree flare at the drops provides additional control during technical descents and tight corners. This design ensures a stable grip, enhancing confidence on varied terrains.

Conclusion

PRO has once again demonstrated its commitment to quality with the Discover Aero Carbon Gravel Handlebar. Its aerodynamic design does not compromise comfort, making it suitable for both gravel racing and adventurous exploration. The handlebar’s ergonomic shape, efficient cable routing, and durable construction make it a valuable upgrade for any gravel enthusiast.
