TAVASZI ORSZÁGOS BRINGÁS REGGELI ÉS UZSONNA 2026 | Kerékpárosklub.huIn September 2026, the ZEG cooperative hosted its inaugural Indian Summer Festival at Beachclub Klein Scheveningen. This event marked a departure from traditional dealer showcases, focusing instead on open and transparent brainstorming sessions centered around self-reflection and connection.

Fostering Inspiration and Communication

The festival aimed to inspire members and enhance internal communication. Erik Wierstra emphasized the importance of collective inspiration and improvement, stating, “We want to inspire together, we want to improve, we want more people to communicate with each other.” He highlighted the cooperative’s commitment to leveraging the knowledge and contributions of its member entrepreneurs, asserting, “You are members of ZEG, you are co-owners of ZEG, and we have to do this together.”

Reflecting on Cooperative Values

Henk van Anken encouraged members to revisit the reasons they joined the cooperative, urging them to reflect on their initial motivations and the importance of connections between experienced members, prospective members, and younger entrepreneurs. He questioned whether the original purpose of the cooperative still aligns with current practices.

Balancing Dealer and Supplier Relationships

The event also addressed the dynamics between dealers, manufacturers, and the cooperative. Van Anken emphasized that independent entrepreneurs should not be primarily directed by suppliers, stating, “You should indicate to us what your needs are in the market.” He underscored the cooperative’s foundational principle of openness and honesty, aiming to create support through transparency.

Leveraging Expertise on the Shop Floor

Rafaël Stoker, with fifteen years in the cycling industry, shared insights on the symbiotic relationship between large-scale retailers and independent dealers. He noted that while larger players excel at attracting customers, independent dealers possess a distinct advantage on the shop floor due to their expertise. He observed, “They are simply more knowledgeable than the people who are on my floor.”

Embracing Teamwork and Collaboration

Guest speaker and former professional cyclist Gert Jakobs drew parallels between his cycling career and the cooperative’s ethos. He recounted his role in supporting teammates to victories, emphasizing the significance of teamwork and mutual support. Jakobs stated, “You have to pay attention to the people around you and pay attention to the people you work with.” He highlighted the importance of expressing appreciation and collaboration, noting that such recognition can motivate individuals to perform better.

Prioritizing Service and Warranty

A key takeaway from the festival was the emphasis on service and warranty as a top priority. Wierstra highlighted the cooperative’s ongoing efforts to establish a Dutch warranty function, aiming to have a dedicated staff member who works within the organization and regularly visits dealers to understand workshop dynamics. This initiative seeks to enhance collaboration and training within workshops.

Streamlining the Product Range

The festival discussions also touched upon the need to streamline the product range. Wierstra mentioned that the cooperative plans to make the collection more compact, especially after removing clearance bikes from the assortment. He anticipates changes in the upcoming model year for brands like Pegasus and Bulls. Van Anken added that brand experience will be a crucial focus in this development, with product developers and managers collaborating to identify overlaps and optimize the use of different brands.

The ZEG Indian Summer Festival 2026 served as a pivotal moment for the cooperative, fostering a culture of self-reflection, open communication, and collaborative growth among its members.
